I've always had a thing for songs. Not just the way they sound, or the catchiest part, but also the entire shape of one. I'm the kind of person who listens to songs on "repeat one" so I can hear the same song over and over again.
So, I only write songs that I think are good enough to play on "repeat one". That's what I do - I write catchy, playable, replayable songs. And I have a blast recording them and playing them live.
It took me a long time to realize that my songs were my most important musical gift. For a while I played the drums. I got good enough at the drums to win a national award, plus I got called for a lot of gigs.
I also did a lot of teaching. I taught drum, piano and guitar lessons. My talent for helping kids appreciate music even earned me a spot on a national children's TV show for two years.
Despite these accomplishments, something was still missing. I was playing music but I wasn't telling my story. So I started writing lots of songs, even more than I used to write.
I don't do "filler". Every song I publish is out there for a reason. So, I make every single one of my songs available for free through my site. You can listen to them any time, and in any versions (acoustic, live, final/studio).
When you come to one of my shows, I go out of my way to make sure you can listen to your favorite songs any time. Each song has a number (for example, "The Rest of My Day" is song #3, located at Fentriss.com/3). My entire catalog is always there for you to enjoy, regardless of how much money you have to spend on music.
My songs are more than just words and melodies - they're stories. They come from real personal experiences I've had, real feelings I've felt, real images I've seen. I can't tell you everything about every song, but I try to reveal as much as I can about them.
